Not doing it this year. Sorry

Price & Co. have some hard decisions ahead of them; one more substantial than others…the bench. I think SP, BP and Position Players will sort itself out, but the bench will be very difficult. Lets presume that the Reds will carry 5 players on the bench. Given they will carry an additional C; presumably Barnhart, there are 4 spots remaining. Also, lets presume that Duvall is the LF, whether they platoon or not. Here are the players that are vying for a spot on the bench:
DeJesus .258/.303/.290/.593 (he appears to be a lock)
Peraza .364/.382/.545/.928 (versatile, big numbers this spring)
Schebler .250/.314/.594/.908 (D is questionable)
Cave .281/.343/.406/.749 (off 25-man…back to NY for $25k)
Duran .316/.364/.684/1.048 (hits with authority)
Holt .267/.333/.333/.667 (not much of a bat)
Rodriguez .208/.345/.208/.553 (last change saloon; has Bruce-like gun)

Price leaning toward young left-field platoon
Right-handed-hitting Duvall, lefty Schebler likely candidates
The bench may well be comprised of:
and one other among:

Duran to serve 80 G suspension at start of season so he will be sent down

As opening day approaches, and positions are being defined by player names, I am starting to get the feeling that Rodriguez will end up a casualty. Too many trades brought in too much talent; Reds home growns arent able to challenge.

According to Enquirer – Doctor misread Arroyo MRI – inflammation needing only 7-10 days. That’s quite a difference!

Newest on Arroyo – Saturday
GM Mike Rizzo says Arroyo has partial tears in his rotator cuff tendon and there is inflammation in the area, MASN’s Dan Kolko reports (all Twitter links). Arroyo will be shut down for ten days to two weeks, at which point he’ll begin a program to strengthen his shoulder. The rehab process could take four to six weeks.

Yeah – so definitely still a problem after all.

Still a problem, but a huge difference between going under the knife, again, or
shutting down and building muscle mass through exercise. He may well throw
the pill again.

Looking like only 6 of the regular 8 are major league ready. The bench won’t matter.

Thorough update on numerous players by Mark…

It is beginning to look like Sunday’s lineup will be pretty much the Reds opening day lineup. Devon ,Zack ,and Billy are all supposed to start.

Reds ready to give Hoover job as closer
Rest of bullpen spots remain up for grabs
Hoover, who was the primary setup man to Aroldis Chapman last season, has allowed one unearned run over his five appearances, including a “B” game Friday. Last season, the right-hander posted a 2.94 ERA in 67 appearances. Over 64 1/3 innings, he walked 31 with 52 strikeouts and a 1.17 WHIP.
Caleb Cotham, Tony Cingrani, Dayan Diaz, Jumbo Diaz, Drew Hayes, Ryan Mattheus, A.J. Morris, Chris O’Grady, JC Ramirez, Keyvius Sampson, Layne Somsen, Pedro Villarreal and Blake Wood are all vying for what will likely be the six remaining spots in the bullpen.

Thought D. Diaz already sent down.

Evidently, the Reds see something the non-roster invitee.

D. Diaz not on roster as with some of the others mention in article. Opening day lineup today, nice to get a preview of them.

Actually, D. Diaz numbers in minors are very good; not too shabby with the Reds this ST either.
