Giants Acquire Marlon Byrd
By Steve Adams [August 20, 2015 at 3:25pm CDT]
The Giants announced that they have acquired veteran outfielder Marlon Byrd and cash considerations from the Reds in exchange for Double-A right-hander Stephen Johnson.

The addition of Byrd will provide the Giants with some desperately needed outfield depth, as their starting outfield has been ravaged by injuries his year. While Nori Aoki is slated to return from a concussion today, starting center fielder Angel Pagan and starting right fielder Hunter Pence are both on the disabled list. Byrd, presumably, will see time in one of the outfield corners (he’s played left field this year but has recent experience in right field as well), with Aoki manning the other spot.

Stephen Alexander Johnson
Position: Pitcher
Bats: Right, Throws: Right
Height: 6′ 5″, Weight: 215 lb.
Born: February 21, 1991
AA
3-0
3.41 ERA
44 G
58 IP
1.276 WHIP

He is not one of the Giants top 30 prospects.

Hope he has a good time out there. Fun type guy.

Yes, for the short time he was here…he’s a stand up, all business, workout, professional, no nonsense kind of ball player. I hope he does well in SF.

What we’ve been seeing these past several weeks are some, not all, of the rookies that are headed for the Reds next year. There were a lot of good outings, but most struggled to get beyond the 5th inning, which tells me, and should tell the Red’s management that their primary goal has got to be to concentrated on the bullpen. Aside from Chapman, Hoover, and LeCure they will need to retool the front end. Diaz may also fit into a spot, but they’ll need (4) good arms. Clean out the other four. They’re contribution didn’t show up until after the All-Star break. The Reds need contribution up to the All-Siar break.
Next year Cozart should be the shortstop, Swarez probably the left fielder, Mesoroco, hopefully will be catching. Byrd and Pena will probably be traded. Byrd has been striking out a lot, as has Frazier and Bruce.
Someone needs to address the hitting and bunting problem that Hamilton has.

Wouldnt you rather have Frazier in LF
