Boesch, Bourgeois updates

Since the Reds have lost Marlon Byrd to a fractured right wrist on Tuesday, either Skip Schumaker or Kristopher Negron have played left field for the Reds. Tonight, Ivan De Jesus Jr. is getting the start. Brennan Boesch has not played. Now we know why – courtesy of our associate reporter Robert Bondy.

“Some lower back issues that really limited his availability in this past series,” Reds manager Bryan Price said. “He could have probably pitch hit yesterday or pinch ran but there were still some limitations, but I imagine you’ll see him getting a start here in one of the next couple games against one of the right-handers, Harang or Williams.”

Price believed Boesch was pretty close to 100 percent again.

Also — OF Jason Bourgeois is beginning a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville tonight. Bourgeois has been out since fracturing his left shoulder in March during Spring Training. As reported on Sunday, Devin Mesoraco is also beginning his rehab assignment with Louisville — in left field.

Any word on how Mesoraco played in LF last night?

He was 0-3 and struck out once no notes on his fielding. Diaz lost the game got hit hard.

Diaz was one of the players I thought would be solid when the season began. It baffles me as to how things can change so quickly. Say the same thing about Negron. Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered am I.

The REDS just cannot seem to keep a healthy or reliable Left Fielder. Since 2000 there has been a gaping hole out there. Maybe it is just the Ohio River Water these guys are drinking?
