Jason Marquis invited to camp

You can read more details on Reds.com/MLB.com, but veteran RHP Jason Marquis was signed by the Reds Wednesday to a Minor League contract with an invitation to big league camp at Spring Training.

Marquis pitched for Reds GM Walt Jocketty rom 2004-06, when both worked for the Cardinals.

To me, this transaction falls under the low-risk, high-reward potential. Marquis did not pitch in the Majors last season after he had July 2013 Tommy John surgery (Dr. Tim Kremchek performed the procedure). He did make eight starts at the Triple-A level for the Phillies after being signed in June but was released on Aug. 31.

While the Reds are set at the top three spots, the guys competing for the Nos. 4 and 5 spots lack a lengthy track record. Marquis will have a chance to win a place in the rotation. The other candidates are Tony Cingrani, Raisel Iglesias, Anthony DeSclafani, Dylan Axelrod and David Holmberg.

So, there is a little more intrigue added to the mix with Marquis — who will wear No. 31.

I feel better now. Walt found an ex-cardinal to sign.

We all knew it would happen sooner or later . Lol Only time will tell if it’s more wasted money .

I never have an issue with minor league signings.. Low risk

I agree . It’s just the whole Ex-Cardinal thing . Let’s hope it works out .

I was worried how walt was reacting to the news he lost out on ex-cardinal rasmuss and today we found out. he signs another washed up ex-cardinal and one coming off Tommy John surgery. he looked so good the philliies released him and nobody but walt and the reds were interested in him. in most cases minor league signings are no big deal but with him being an ex-cardinal if he makes through spring training with an ERA under 8 he will make the staff. when will he ever realize the guys he keeps wasting money on are ex-cardinals for a reason? and that reason is they are not not any good any more or they would still be playing with the cardinals. the cardinals and their fans are laughing at the reds and consider them a cardinals an affiliate at this point with all the washed up ex-cardinals he has signed.

you mean low risk, NO reward, he has never been good, why would that change now?
Hope this isn’t the plan for an innings eater

wth?
not sure how this just now posted???
oh well lol
