Phillips, Ondrusek activated

The Reds on Monday activated 2B Brandon Phillips and right-handed reliever Logan Ondrusek from the disabled list. To make room on the roster, catcher Tucker Barnhart and starting pitcher Dylan Axelrod were optioned to Triple-A Louisville. Reliever Curtis Partch, the 26th man in the doubleheader on Sunday, was also returned to Louisville.

Phillips has been on the DL since having July 11 surgery to repair torn ligaments in his left thumb. In the third game of his rehab assignment, this time for Class A Dayton, he was 2-for-2 and hit by a pitch. Ondrusek last pitched on July 13 before going on the DL July 22 with a strained right shoulder. He pitched a two-hit scoreless inning for Louisville on Friday.

It will be very interesting tonight to see if or how the Reds get off the mat from Sunday’s double-crushing defeats. They need to respond well in St. Louis — a tough task considering the recent track record — to have any chance at hanging on in the race for a playoff spot.

Now Ondrusek can throw the gopher ball instead of Hoover.

When will the flight to Lower Slabovia leave with JJ Hoover? Did Conterrous and Parra pick up their tickets, too? How about Axelrod? Will he be the replacement for Simon who has, by all accounts…run out of gas?

This team is so mismanaged from Jocketty to price it is disgusting. Jocketty needs on that plane with hoover. Jocketty makes those crazy deals and the mgr is stuck with those over priced players.

It wasn’t a gopher ball, but Ondrusek has picked up right where he left off.
