Jumbo Diaz promoted

The Reds on Friday optioned left-handed pitcher Tony Cingrani to Triple-A Louisville and selected the contract of right-handed reliever Jumbo Diaz from Louisville.

UPDATE: Click here for the full story on Diaz, who dropped 69 pounds in the off-season.

On Thursday in a 4-3 loss to the Pirates, Cingrani issued three walks in 1 2/3 innings and walked home the winning run with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 12th inning. He was moved to the bullpen on Saturday after Mat Latos took his spot in the rotation.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the moved relievers Sean Marshall and Trevor Bell to the 60-day disabled list. Also, starting pitcher Brett Marshall was activated from the DL and optioned to Louisville.

Sean Marshall will have surgery on Tuesday to debride his left shoulder.

For the 30-year-old Diaz, his long road to the Majors is finally at its destination after 12 seasons and 340 games pitched in the Minor Leagues for four organizations.

Diaz was 2-2 with a 1.35 ERA and 18 saves in 30 appearances at Louisville.

It is about time. I blame Cingrani’s troubles not just on him, but also on Pico who should of worked with him on a straight change, or somehow better his off speed stuff. Fastball after fastball does not get it in the Big leagues. He will now have that opportunity, and he will return a much better pitcher, not just a thrower.

When a team leads by 8-0 or 9-3, the game is over. This was the worst ass-whipp’n
of the year, imo. I am disgusted about our pitching – the relievers…all of them.
If we can’t hold HUGE leads (x2)…forget about it! Massive loss…one that will not be forgotten for quite some time. I am scarred by this one………….

That was the worst game I attended since 1972!! this team is going no where!!..Up 8-0, then 9-3 and loose???? Also when they had another chance Up 9-3, Hamilton gets on and 1 out. WHY is Frazier swinging at the 1st pitch??? WHY is Votto Swinging right away too?? they had ZERO Baseball I.Q. last night. Your Fastest player on 1st and your swinging and not giving him a chance to steal??? Ridiculous!!!! AND the bullpen was awful after that.. I wonder what Walt was thinking watching Edwin hit two 3-run homers and then Fransisco hit another bomb against the Reds (I wanted them to bring him back since he was released and would be a HUGE threat off the bench than this weak bench we have now), and a total of 9 RBIs from Ex Reds!!!.. Sadly this team cant produce legit hitters in its farm system.. I dont see anything knocking at the door screaming Game Changer coming from the minors!! till Walt stops band-aiding the team and gets legit replacements this team is not sniffing the playoffs

This is a tough one to swallow but I will take the positive side. We have still won 6 of our last 9. This was a terrible loss indeed! I am heading to the game today and hopefully we get back on a streak!

Prior to yesterdays game, teams with 8+ run lead in last 5 seasons were 1158-6 (99.5%). Of the 14 runs Toronto scored, 11 came with two outs. Former Reds Encarnacion-Navarro-Francisco 5 for 11, 4 R, 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, BB.

Who is Jumbo Diaz ??????
