Game 40: Reds at Phillies

Hamilton 8
Schumaker 9
Phillips 4
Frazier 5
Mesoraco 2
Ludwick 7
Pena 3
Cozart 6
Simon 1

*The roster moves have not been announced, but obviously Mesoraco is activated from DL.

Reds first baseman Joey Votto remained in Cincinnati on Friday to undergo a MRI exam of his left knee in Cincinnati, a team spokesman confirmed. This is the same knee for Votto that required two operations during the 2012 season.

(The club hoped to have the results of the tests on Friday afternoon.

*For Brayan Pena, it’s his fifth career appearance and first career start at 1B.

*Also, Tony Cingrani is now listed as Sunday’s probable starter.

**UPDATE: Jeff Francis was designated for assignment to make room for Mesoraco. Nick Christiani, Thursday’s 26th man, was returned to Triple-A Louisville as well.

Oh god!!! #seasonover

I like this lineup; a lot of potential punishment in positions #4-#7. Also, it’s good to see Mesoraco back in town. Pena over Soto at lst…interesting; although Pena is scalding the ball recently.

Show Soto you got some confidence in him and give him the damn start!

With Santiago able to back up Frazier and now Pena playing 1B for Votto,
coupled with Soto’s 2 for 17 hitting record and a .118/.111/.176/.288 line, he might be the one that was sent back down when Mesoraco returned. Also, they may have liked what they saw with Francis the other day and want to keep him up. We’ll find out soon.

Leake is tearing a page out of Cueto’s book; last three starts, 7 2/3 average and allowed 2 ER in two of the games, only 1 ER in the other.

That means nothing to me…..Our offense is god awful!
