Latos close to game ready?
I’m back from some time off, refreshed and ready for the final couple of weeks of Spring Training
Right now, the Reds are having their annual camp Players Association meeting with Tony Clark, Dave Winfield, Bobby Bonilla and other top union executives. When they get out, there will be a flurry of activity.
*Mat Latos (left knee, right elbow) is scheduled to face a couple of hitters in live BP and throw 20-25 pitches.
*Jonathan Broxton (right forearm) is slated to throw again in the bullpen and have hitters standing in the box.
*Sean Marshall (left shoulder) is scheduled to have his first bullpen session.
Manager Bryan Price is looking at backup scenarios in case all three pitchers aren’t ready to begin the regular season on time.
“Yes we are. Not that we’ve finalized any decisions on readiness,” Price said on Friday afternoon. “But we do know for sure that Mat, barring any setbacks today, will definitely pitch early in the week next week. Jonathan as well – possibly on the same day as Mat if everything goes well with his bullpen today.”
*I will have more later tonight on MLB.com/Reds.com and the options Price is looking at. If Latos, Broxton and Marshall aren’t ready, Alfredo Simon likely becomes a starter and that would open three spots in the bullpen.
*Before the game, Shin-Soo Choo will receive the Reds MVP trophy he won for his one strong season in Cincinnati.
