Some lofty Reds numbers

Have a plane to catch but here are some quick numbers to digest after a 11-3 Reds victory over the Pirates on Sunday to win two of three in series.

*Bronson Arroyo won his 14th game of the season, joining Mat Latos (14-6) and Mike Leake (also 14-6). The last time the Reds had three 14-game winners: 1975 (Jack Billingham 15-10, Don Gullett 15-4, Gary Nolan 15-9).

*Joey Votto hit a RBI double in the eighth inning. It gave him 30 for the season, for the sixth-straight season. Only Pete Rose (1965-70, 1972-78) had six-straight 30 double seasons for Cincinnati.

*The Reds pitching staff notched six strikeouts today, giving them 1,249 Ks for 2013. That snapped last season’s club record.

*Billy Hamilton had three hits and two more stolen bases. Hamilton is 12-for-12 in steals.

*The Reds road record for the regular season ended at an even .500 at 41-41.

I will have more on the game and the big series win soon on

Numbers “ScHnumbers”….just win out and the rest will be up to the Cardinals opponents…..T2

I don’t believe I’m the only one who feels the anticipation and excitement when Billy Hamilton comes to the plate and then, the expectation when he reaches first base. This is certainly great and fun baseball.

OK, where are we? Well, we are tied with the Pirates for either WC #1 or WC#2. There is an outside shot at the Division Championship, but we can discuss that after the Cards fail and they don’t look the part. Washington made a run but is ending up short and has literally no shot. On to the Pirates…they are on the road for their final 6 games, 3 @ Cubs and 3 @ Reds. The Reds are now at home for their final home stand; 3 w/Mets and 3w/ Pirates. As of today, to me, it looks like we may well be playing a one game WC playoff with the Pirates at GABP. Problem? The pitching doesn’t really align well; Latos has not performed well in his last few games. But, the good news is that we have ample time to realign the SP and there is great hope that Cingrani gets his back aligned and in track as well! Exciting next 7 days; means everything to the Reds. Good luck to all Reds fans! Hold on to your bootstraps!

Mark ,

It’s highly unlikely but what if the Cardinals – Reds – Pirates all three end up with exact same record sunday at end of regular season . What is the MLB tiebreaker system .

Ira, you obviously missed Mark’s post of September 20th…”Where things stand, 9/20″.
He provided a link that will provide the answer to your question.
