Tuesday odds and ends

*The last time Tony Cingrani returned from the disabled list and started on Sept. 5, vs. the Cardinals, Ryan Hanigan caught even though Cingrani is paired usually with Devin Mesoraco. On that night, Mesoraco was bothered by a sore left hamstring.

On Tuesday, Cingrani is again working with Hanigan. This time, there is nothing wrong with Mesoraco.

“We’ve got a day game tomorrow, early 12:30 hot game. Leake is pitching,” Reds manager Dusty Baker said. “I thought it would be excessive for him to catch tonight and the early game tomorrow. Plus, Hani has been swinging better than Meso is right now.”

*Before tomorrow’s game, Johnny Cueto will throw his second live BP session. It should be about 45 pitches.

*My friend and colleague, Alyson Footer, did a story today on how better nutrition has become a big deal all around the Majors. The story also includes a Reds perspective. Click here to read it.

*The 2014 schedule was released today. For those who get amped about the Reds-Cardinals rivalry, you won’t have to wait long. Six of the first nine games, including Opening Day at GABP March 31, are vs. the Cardinals.

*Joey Votto celebrated his 30th birthday on Tuesday.
