Votto, Phillips & Chapman All-Stars

The All-Star selection show is over and the Reds have three National League All-Stars in Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips and Aroldis Chapman.

Votto and Phillips were elected by the fans and will start. Chapman was named to the pitching staff via election on the players’ ballot.

With the prize being home field for the WS, it would seem to me that the proper way to play the game is to have the writers select the teams. I understand why MLB put It in the hands of the fans, however, I do not agree with it. Wanna make it meaningful? Let the people that understand baseball; see baseball day in day out, make the selections. It is a total “popularity” contest, not the “best players in MLB” contest. Guess it’s all part and parcel of how and what generates revenues; the fans. Nothing will alter the “all mighty”, actually, nor should it!
