Game 36: vs MIL

*Roster move was made: Catcher Ryan Hanigan (left oblique, right thumb) was activated from the 15-day DL. Catcher Corky Miller was designated for assignment. Hanigan was 3-for-8 with two RBIs in three games for Triple-A Louisville on his rehab assignment.

*RHP Johnny Cueto (right lat, right oblique) pitched three innings with one run and four hits, no walks and four strikeouts in his rehab assignment for Class A Dayton last night.

*A rehab assignment schedule for OF Chris Heisey (right hamstring) is tentatively expected to be determined later this week.

why is Dusty sticking with Cozart in the 2 hole? He isn’t producing at all! Move him to 8 and get someone behind Choo that doesn’t drop their back should and pop everything up, strike out or hit a solo homer…..

I agree! Why not Paul or even Frazier in the 2 hole and move cozart down. He is obviously not a 2 hole hitter.

Not hard to see why St. Louis is leading the NL Central by 3 games;
batting averages:

RISP – .330 – (Reds – .264)
RISP 2 out – .357 (Reds – .185)
Bases Loaded – .458 (Reds – .356)

The Cards are ultra-clutch with the more men they put on base.

Not to mention the best pitching to boot.

Cozart is the closest thing to a #2 hitter…

“Managers often use a hitter with exceptional bat control in the number 2 spot. Such hitters might be called on to sacrifice, but often are used in hit-and-run situations. Speed often was a desired component at this high spot in the order.”

Nobody fits the bill; Cozart has a lot of attributes, however he needs to learn contact…not swinging from the fences. But then again, when did this team ever have discipline at the plate, or reflect situational hitting. No, it’s not Dusty’s strong suit.

This might sound crazy, but why not Jay Bruce in the two hole . He will have Votto behind him and maybe it might jump start him . just a thought.
