Game 30: at CHC

Reds lineup vs. Cubs

Choo 8
Cozart 6
Votto 3
Frazier 5
Bruce 9
Paul 7
Mesoraco 2
Izturis 4
Leake 1

*No word yet on why Phillips is out of the lineup. It could be part of Dusty Baker’s M.O. to give a select guy two days off, around a team off day. Will update when I know more.

UPDATE — It is just a day off for Phillips for the reason I expected.

Let’s go we need to sweep these cubbies

Have you heard if Cueto will pitch in rehab tonight?

Re: Cueto… allow me to direct you to the blog post after this one…

I have since seen it. Thanks, hope its nothing serious.

How can you not say that Leake is a better hitter than Izturis, Paul, and Cozart. Heck I would include Mez too. Why bat him 9th? I would want him to get more ABs than these guys.

Prime example of Reds’ batting woes…

– X. Paul doubled to shallow right
– D. Mesoraco grounded out to third
– C. Izturis walked
– M. Leake lined out to right
– S. Choo singled to shallow center, X. Paul scored, C. Izturis to second
– Z. Cozart grounded into fielder’s choice, C. Izturis out at third, S. Choo to second
– End of Inning (1 Run, 2 Hits, 0 Errors)

Paul would have scored on Leake’s flyball to right, except for the fact that Mesoraco pulled the ball, instead of executing at the plate and at minimum, advancing the runner from 2nd. The save goes to Choo who singled with 2 out. Situational hitting is not necessarily one of the Red’s strengths, and in many instances it leaves stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd; runners that could have and should have scored in many instances.
