Game 29: at STL

Reds lineup vs. Cardinals

Choo 8
Cozart 6
Votto 3
Phillips 4
Bruce 9
Frazier 5
Lutz 7
Miller 2
Bailey 1

Hard to kow what to expect from 5 through 9.

A couple weeks ago Jay Bruce started keeping his front shoulder closed and driving the ball to left-center. Now suddenly he’s flying open again and pulling grounders. I wish someone (Dusty, Brook?) would remind him of how he started to become successful.

Man this offense needs a boost big time. Cozart is struggling again and he is infront of Votto. This seems pointless to have your worst hitter right now infront of your best.

I agree. If Cozart cannot raise his sub-.200 AVG and OBP, he should be moved down the order.
The problem is that Phillips is hitting the hide off the ball in the 4 hole so it becomes another game of ‘who can bat second’? If Frazier were ready to bat 4th, I would propose a lineup of:

The problem with Cozart is that if moved to that deep in the lineup, the pitchers don’t have to pitch him FB’s as they may today given who follows him, but could feast on the guy as they have in the past. With all that said, he is the finest fielding SS I have seen on the Reds since Barry.

I think we all heard it, but it bears repeating as it obviously defines the Red’s current woes; the Reds have lost 45% of their games played when they have scored 2R or less (13 of 29 games). Their record through today’s game is 15-14.

Why does Dusty continue to play Corky Miller ? If he is that good , why wasn’t he with the club out of spring training ? Either Mesoraco is the future or he”s not.
