Ludwick to have shoulder surgery

The Reds announced that LF Ryan Ludwick will have surgery on Wednesday to repair torn cartilage in his dislocated right shoulder. He will go on the 15-day disabled list. A corresponding roster move will be announced before the game.

For my off day story today, I wrote how regadless of the severity of Ludwick’s injury, the Reds will need to act quick to pick up the slack, as the April schedule is quite forgiving.

I think you have to put Cozart in the 2 spot and Phillips in the cleanup spot. You need a veteran, experienced hitter behind Votto. If you have Heisey or Frazier at the four, some teams don’t respect them at all, therefore Votto will get pitched around pretty much every at bat. Also, all people talked about last year was how they wanted Stubbs in the two hole because he would get good pitches in front of Votto. I assume the same would be true with Cozart.

It was a relatively small sample, but when Cozart did hit ahead of Votto a year ago, he did very well.
