Choo, Hanigan still out of lineup
For the third-straight game, CF Shin-Soo Choo and catcher Ryan Hanigan are not in the Reds lineup. Choo has been bothered by a sore quadriceps while Hanigan is dealing with an oblique issue. Neither are seen as serious injuries.
“They’re doing pretty good. I don’t think they’re ready,” Reds manager Dusty Baker said on Sunday. “If it was later in the spring, I think they’d be ready. They’re disappointed not to play, especially Choo. I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do.”
Baker didn’t believe that missing time would compromise Choo’s ability to get used his new position. He’s been happy with the progress he’s seen. But there’s more to it than that.
“He has to get used to who he’s playing beside more than anything,” Baker said. “He has to get used to Ludwick and Bruce and Ludwick and Heisey. He has to get used to our second baseman going out as far as he does, Brandon Phillips. He has to get used to how far Cozart goes so you don’t have any collisions. These are things where you have to get to know each other. It’s tougher here because these fields are not synonymous to the fields they’re going to be playing on. At least it’s better than not being familiar with them at all.
“It won’t take him long to get used to center field. It will take him longer to used to the guys he’s around.”
