Phillips in WBC?

This tweet just came from the account of Reds 2B Brandon Phillips:

Phillips is one of the best second basemen in baseball, a two-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove winner. If he has in fact been chosen to represent Team USA, it would be his first WBC.

There has been little news about World Baseball Classic rosters from MLB, but I wouldn’t be shocked if we hear formally about rosters in the next couple of weeks. Joey Votto, Johnny Cueto, Jay Bruce and others are also possible candidates to play. In the case of Votto, he said he would not play for Team Canada unless his surgically repaired left knee was 100 percent. Regardless, it will be a quirky Spring Training with players departing in March to play for their countries.

How will the WBC actually work for those chosen –Will they be gone the entire period of the tournament — They do get time later to work with their team ?????

In the last two editions of the WBC, players left camp and didn’t return until their country was eliminated. It might be a little different for the Reds this year since team USA is basing in Phoenix and playing first round games there too, but I don’t know for sure.

Wow Joe didn’t call Darwin Barney? You would think Joe would want a Gold Glover at 2B. LOL
