Mes catches Leake and Bailey who just happen to be back to back in the rotation now due the Bailey and Cueto switching spots this past week. I would expect to see him for the next two games.
I would like to see Mes pinch hitting more to get more at bats. I am willing to take the risk in losing a back up catcher for his bat. That is the dumbest rational in sports to never pinch your back up catcher. I think he just needs more at bats to get going.
So what happens if you pinch hit him in the 7th and Hanigan gets hurt in the 8th?
Then you find a replacement to play the position for 2 innings. What if Mes is given the opportunity to drive in more runs and become a more complete hitter? We sit a guy all year just for the happenstance that our other catcher gets hurt and we have to replace him for 2 innings. How often has this ever happened? Hanigan and Mes are both good hitters that should be thought of more for pinch hitting. Same scenario occurs in a double switch late in the game with our catcher. How is that any different? I would normally not care since back up catchers are not that good. But in years past as well as this year both our catchers are good hitters. I think its worth the small minute chance of injury late in the game.
AnY word on roster moves?
Dude at work just told me that Sean Casey is going to play for the Reds and they are working him out right now. Said they are going to give him a broadcaster/player contract like they did for Pete Rose as a player/manager. I looked him right in the eyes and said, “Sam, don’t go telling people that rumor, you’ll look like an idiot.” I can’t believe these rumors people start, hilarious.
