*There was a scoring change on that odd play that ended the top of the first inning. The Elias Sports Bureau reviewed Thursday night’s first-inning play where Wilson Valdez was caught advancing from third base to home in a rundown for the third out. It was determined that Valdez will be credited with a steal of third base and a caught stealing of home.

*The Reds must win the next three games to have a chance at 6-5 road trip. I think considering everything, 5-6 would be an acceptable outcome and 6-5 would very solid.

Evidently Stubb’s confidence is more important than winning games.

I am curious about the scoring of the walk off “single”. By definition there is no ambiguity to what is or is not, a ” Ground Rule Double”. Yet the play was scored a single. Why? Can anyone explain?

It’s scored a single because Cabrera stopped running after touching first base.

Thanks. Would he be allowed to touch second? Or was the game over when run was scored?

It doesn’t matter once the run scores. If he was trying to break a doubles record or something, he certainly could have touched 2B. It’s like a walkoff HR. If he rounds all the bases, it’s still a homer. If he stops at 2B, it’s a double. That happened to Robin Ventura once in the postseason.

Thanks! I enjoy your writing and your on-air work.

Agree with you about the goal of the road trip. They should focus now on winning 2 of the next 3.
