5/2 vs. CHC

Reds lineup vs. Cubs (it should look familiar after the rainout)

Cozart 6
Stubbs 8
Votto 3
Phillips 4
Bruce 9
Rolen 5
Heisey 7
Hanigan 2
Arroyo 1

*After Tuesday’s rainout, the rotation has been readjusted. Johnny Cueto will still pitch on Friday at PIT, followed by Mike Leake on Saturday and Mat Latos on Sunday. This still keeps Cueto on his regular rest.

“He’s going too well not to right now,” Reds manager Dusty Baker said.

The other option would have been to skip Leake, who was originally slated for Thursday. Baker was just glad the postponed day wasn’t made into a doubleheader during this series.

“Had we done that and had to go with Leake and Bailey tomorrow, that would have really messed up our rotation,” Baker said. “Then we’d have to get somebody in here and send somebody out that we don’t want to send out and they’d have to be out 10 days and we’d have to change our whole rotation around.”

It still hasn’t been scheduled yet, but it will happen in a doubleheader when the Cubs return Aug. 17-19.

*The Reds confirmed that they signed RHP Michael Wuertz to a Minor League deal. Wuertz will report to extended Spring Training in Arizona for the time being, said Minor League director Bill Bavasi.

This lineup would be a lot better but you gotta take what you can get sometimes….

Ryan Freel 8
Barry Larkin 6
Dangelo Jimenez 4
Adam Dunn 7
Jacob Cruz 9
Jason Larue 2
Javier Valentin 2
Brandon Larsen 5
Jesus Sanchez 1

Mark…what are your thoughts on Dusty’s reasoning for flip-flopping Cozart and Stubbs from one lineup to the next and back? What is his reasoning? Is it due to
their batting traits versus a SP or something else; I can’t figure it out. I think it might
be due to the 2-hole; allowing the batter to see more plate pitches, but why the numerous changes? Thanks Mark; also, thanks for your fine work here.

Mark, who do you have winning the Stanley Cup or the NBA Championship?

Just the opposite of Sheldon. Don’t give a damn about the NHL. Follow the NBA some. Looks like Miami in the end, though I’d be happy with an upset applecart!

Neb — I think it’s largely match-up based and who has the best chance to get on from the leadoff spot. Curt — don’t care about NBA. For NHL, I thought either Rangers or Penguins going in. Now I don’t know what to think. I guess Rangers…or maybe the Flyers.

Lakers will probably get it done this year. And the Kings I think are the team to beat for the Cup.
