Basking in Sweet 16

Good morning. As a UC grad, this is certainly a great day to know the Bearcats have advanced to the Sweet 16 for a matchup vs. Ohio State. I remember very badly wanting some of the Huggins’ led teams in the 90’s to get a OSU game that never happened. Hopefully, this is a good one.

Big day for the area in general…UC, XU, OU, OSU, UK, IU are all still alive. It’s great for the region no matter who you root for.

Anyhoo — back to baseball. Road game just up the way at Camelback Ranch in Glendale.

Reds lineup vs. White Sox

Phillips 4
Cozart 6
Votto 3
Rolen DH
Heisey 9
Frazier 7
Francisco 5
Mesoraco 2
Phipps 8

Bailey 1

Also pitching: Masset, Ondrusek, Arredondo

Why not mention the University of Louisville?

Pure oversight on my part. Louisville too…

Bobcats baby!!! Gonna slay the giant.

Man Mark, I am huge UC fan. Grew up going to UC and Xavier games watching Van Exel, Cory Blount, Tyrone Hill, and that tiny PG from Xavier Jamal Walker I think his name was! The job that the players and Cronin have done this year is just incredible. This team plays as hard as any team in the nation, especially on the defensive end. Been a fun year for us UC fans. OSU is a really good team, but Cincy can play with anybody in my opinion and it should be a very hard fought game. The Bearcats believe they could win this whole thing and thats the exact attitude you need to have. Does not mean they will do it. But they sure are fun to watch right now.

Fast facts 101:

– 7 teams within a 150 mile radius of downtown Cincinnati. UC, XU, OSU, IU, Ohio, Kentucky, Louisville.

You think the Midwest is producing some talent or what?

– No teams left from the Pacific or Western time zones

– Also back to back sweet 16’s with one city being represented by two teams.

I like the geographic focus…posted something similar yesterday though I think all seven nearly fall within a 100 mile radius, or just a bit over that! But one aspect of your argument won’t hold water: the big programs, which now include Xavier and, for some time, Cincinnati, recruit from every hoops nook and cranny across thye nation. Not really a reflection at all of regional talent.

Mark – Love your blog. I am a huge Reds follower in Hampton, VA. Business is taking me to Boston this week…so I’ve secured a ticket to Thursday night’s action. Sorry, but I will be rooting for tOSU!
