Navarro signed

The Reds on Monday signed veteran catcher Dioner Navarro to a minor league contract with an invitation to big league camp as a non-roster player.

Navarro, 27, spent last season with the Dodgers, where he batted .193/.276/.324 in 64 games. He’s also previously played for the Rays and Yankees.

The Spring Training roster is now at 53 players.

How many players can they invite to spring training?

As much as the budget and playing time can allow. Twins, so far, have invited 64 players. Reds were in that vicinity several years ago. But you have to pay them big league stipends/per diems when in big league camp.

Oh ok, thanks. I have to admit I was a little scared when I saw that the A’s got Seth Smith and then saw this post. I thought maybe there was going to be a trade for Hanigan.

Don’t like this deal. Mostly because when I was in Tampa he wasn’t good. Dioner had one good year, other than that he is a bad hitter, and just an average defender. Hope he doesn’t see the field in Cincy, but mostly because that would mean Devin and/or Hanigan are hurt.

Got my season tickets Saturday, pumped.

So is he going to play OF?…….. I agree with Curt. He isn’t a great lifetime bat. as I tweeted, he’s definitely better than ol’ corky miller.

I don’t mind this signing. It’s a low-risk signing and could really help if there’s injuries…Here’s a link to a blog I started.

Ludwick is aboard the ship. What’s left? Infielder maybe? Otherwise, we are done here.
