Final series of 2011

Reds lineup vs. Mets

Phillips 4
Votto 3
Bruce 9
Heisey 8
Francisco 5
Sappelt 7
Mesoraco 2
Bailey 1

*The one and only time Homer Bailey faced the Mets previously was this season and a mess. On July 28, Bailey gave up a career-high nine earned runs and 12 hits over four inning during a 10-9 Reds loss at GABP. He left the game trailing by a 9-3 score.

Tuesday am: Well, what can we take away as positive, or even definite, developments this season? Mark, what are your ideas about this year’s team and what to look for next year? What would be your #1 go-after in the free agent market?

Hopefully our number one priority isn’t second base. I would say we need bulllpen help and maybe flip a couple young guns like Heisey, Frazier, Bailey, Wood, etc. and turn them into a dominant number one starter. Then go into the season with Chapman, Cueto, Arroyo, Leake, and free agent X as your rotation.

I will have a little more on that with my end of season stories that go live Thursday. There will be no real “No. 1 go after in the FA market,” because prices won’t fit the budget. But the trade market is another story. And the club’s top priority is to make like the Brewers last winter and land a No. 1 or No. 2 type starter to pair with Cueto at the top of the rotation.
