*The Padres claimed OF Jeremy Hermida off of outright waivers today from the Reds. Hermida was up the first month of the season and batted .111 (2-for-18) with one home run, three RBIs in 10 games. At Triple-A Louisville, where he’s been since, he batted .319 with 17 homers and 55 RBIs.
*This transaction puts the Reds 40-man roster at 39 players one day before September callups can arrive. That can only lead me to believe this is the opening created to get catcher Devin Mesoraco on the 40-man so he can be promoted.
