Reds try to avoid sweep

Reds lineup vs. Mets

Stubbs 8
Renteria 6
Votto 3
Phillips 4
Heisey 7
Bruce 9
Hernandez 2
Frazier 5
Bailey 1

*The Reds are trying to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Mets for the first time since July 18-21, 1997 at Shea Stadium. The Mets have never swept a four-game series in Cincinnati.

*The last time the Reds were handed a four-game sweep by anybody was Sept. 6-10 of last season Colorado. (Remember the steal of home for a loss?)

Mark – you may have said, but when can we expect (or, can we expect) Cozart’s return? I’d like to see Cozart, Heisey and Frazier in the same lineup, with Mesoraco when he gets called up.

and Alonso?

I say do this damn deal with the Rockies. Give them Wood, Chapman, and Mez. I don’t care, just do it. It won’t help us this year, but if you go into next year with Cueto, Jimenez, Bailey, Leake, and Arroyo, you’re looking pretty dang good. Then you go with Bruce, Stubbs, and Alonso in the outfield. You’ll have to find a catcher for a year until Grandal is ready to go along with Hanigan, but that is fine. Anyone agree? Trade for the longterm when a guy is being dangled, be aggressive Walt. Especially since right now your team is not.

Or christ, give them Volquez instead of Wood if that is what they want.

Thanks, Curt. I forgot Alonso. Man, you are frustrated. Can we afford Jimenez, if we trade for him or is he a rent-a-player?

RE: Cozart….brace could come off this weekend and maybe start swinging. Notebook item on site yesterday:
