*To make room on the roster for Johnny Cueto, Carlos Fisher was optioned to Triple-A Louisville.

*SS Paul Janish (sprained right ankle) grabbed a bat and headed to the cage under the outfield bleachers. Earlier in the clubhouse, he saw some improvement since he was injured on Friday.


“I am going outside today and move around a little bit,” Janish said. “It is definitely better than it was but it’s still a little sore. I am obviously not playing today, but maybe tomorrow or the next couple of days, I’ll probably be at least in the realm to get back on it pretty good. It’s kind of encouraging because I thought it would be a few more days. We’ll be good.”

*Miguel Cairo, who has a sore right knee, is making his first start since April 30.

*If Joey Votto reaches base today, it will be 34 straight games to start the season and would tie himwith Dave Collins’ 1981 record to start the season.


3B Juan Francisco (left calf) was scheduled to leave today for a Minor League rehab assignment at Louisville.


*Several Reds players were opening boxes that contained their new pink bats for use on Mother’s Day and to recognize breast cancer awareness.

“I’m using it for my Mom,” Brandon Phillips said. “I’m using it for my Mom’s mom and for the all the moms in my family. It recognition for the moms out there, especially for breast cancer awareness also. I’m very privileged to use a pink bat and pink cleats also. It’s nice to be able to do something like this. I’m just glad to be a part of it.”

“Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers,” said manager Dusty Baker as he put pink wristbands on his arms. “I made all my calls. My wife sent all the flowers and they thanked me. She even sent herself some. That’s a good wife, ain’t it?”
