Dusty Baker’s stubborn refusal to give Fred Lewis a shot as the lead off hitter continues…all because he doesn’t want to platoon Jonny Gomes.
I’m surprised more hasn’t been written about the differences of opinion between Baker and Jocketty on (1) using Fred Lewis as a possible lead off hitter and platoon with Gomes, (2) using Aroldis Chapman as a starter, as Walt appeared to prefer at the start of the season, and (3) using Edgar Renteria as the starting SS, as Baker clearly prefers.
