Mark Great coverage. I’d wager the Reds cover spring training better than most teams. Any who, is it just me or does the home line-up for the intrasquad game look like opening day lineup? Your thoughts Mark, Reds Nation?

That lineup is likely what you might see regularly. Although if a righty like Wainwright or Carpenter start for the Cardinals on opening day, Dickerson or Nix would likely be in there instead of Gomes.

I like that lineup…last year I didn’t feel good about the team…this year I really am excited to see this team in action. I think we have a good blend of young and veterans. I feel like we have solid youth waiting in the wings if someone struggles…more so than last year. I just do not like Phillips in the 4 hole. I’d rather see him hit in the bottom part of the order than in that spot.

I wish I could get excited. I feel like this is a rebuilding year – we’ve rebuilt last year’s team! I thought the secret of success for a small-market team was to stockpile young talent (the Reds appear to have done that) and have it mature at the same time (we’ll see), mix in some key veterans (like Scot Rolen), have them contend for or win a championship, and then keep them together as long as possible before free agency tears the team apart. Well, to do that, the Reds need to season the talent at the major league level. Otherwise, they’re the Pirates or the Royals – develop star player / lose star player / develop another star player / lose another star player, cast in the role of the Yank-Sox’ AAA-1/2 team. I really, really hope that starting today, Frazier and Heisey and Francisco and Chapman and others I don’t even know about play so well this spring that the Reds’ plan has to be comopletely revised.
