Votto plays in Sarasota

As expected, Joey Votto started his rehab assignment for Class A Sarasota on Thursday night. Against Clearwater, Votto was 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout and played six innings during a 2-0 Sarasota loss.

Here is the boxscore.

Here is the game recap.

Hmm… not the magical comeback I was hoping (and, really, expecting), but… meh. He’ll come around. After all, he’s Canadian Cool!

In all seriousness, though, I’m just glad to see him back on the diamond again. Thanks for the update.

I’m with you, RR. Since he hit from the first day of Spring Training and homered the last time he came back, I thought the rehab assignment was a waste. Wrong again. Someday, some never-got-above-A-league pitcher’s going to be able to tell his grandchildren he struck out Joey Votto.
