It's Hanigan's turn again

Addressing the opening comment from the Volquez posting…yes, Ryan Hanigan is catching again for Bronson Arroyo tonight in the series opener vs. the Pirates. Of course, that’s no shock considering he’s caught all four of Arroyo’s previous starts. Hanigan has hit .357 (5-for-14) in those games.

Reds lineup:

Taveras CF
Hairston LF
Votto 1B
Phillips 2B
Bruce RF
Rosales 3B
Gonzalez SS
Hanigan C
Arroyo P

LF Chris Dickerson, who suffered a head injury on Monday, isn’t back in there but that has more to do with the Pirates starting lefty Zach Duke.

UPDATE: Dusty Baker said that Dickerson would likely start on Saturday vs. RHP Russ Ohlendorf. Dickerson took BP on Wednesday and was cleared to play as early as today.

“My vision really hasn’t been a problem but it is processing small stuff,” Dickerson said. “Everything is much better. I’m ready to go. I’m back with no lingering dizziness or symptoms in effect. No post-concussion syndrome effects.”

Wow, Mark! Did I actually inspire a title for this post?Russhttp://wight4256.mlblogs.comhttp://twitter.com/wight4256

Sure — it was a timely way to answer your question. MMW is a full service blog! Tell your friends, family, neighbors and pets.

Are you going to be on the radio this weekend? Isn’t Dan Hoard in for Marty? Come by my blog or twitter so I can say I have an MLB celebrity reader!Russhttp://wight4256.mlblogs.comhttp://twitter.com/wight4256

It’s my turn again on Saturday. John Fay is tonight. I assume Dan will be talking to beat writers in the bottom of the 2nd with Marty out, but I don’t know for sure.

Lets go Reds! The Reds need Hairston to start hitting if they want to keep winning. I say that because Dusty bats guys where the would hit if they were hitting well, not based on how they are hitting.

oh gosh gotta get back to the lefty righty lefty huh dusty? god forbid votto and bruce be back to back

Question for you Mark. I just don’t get why the coaching staff is so set on having Brandon Phillips as the 4th hitter. Would it be so bad to have the two lefties (Votto and Bruce) one right after the other. Why not Phillips, Votto, Bruce or Bruce, Votto, Phillips? It just seems like since Phillips is not a prototypical clean-up (and is not exactly tearing it up) they should play around a bit more. Am I missing something?

Phillips isn’t doing well in 4th spot, for sure. He puts too much pressure on himself to be a player he isn’t — a power guy jacking homers. Not saying I fully agree with this premise, but Baker generally avoids putting Votto and Bruce back-to-back because he doesn’t want to make it easier for opponents to go with a lefty reliever. Or he can force them to use more of their bullpen if they want get situational and make multiple changes.
